Plan Air Jette
Scope
To analyse indoor and outdoor air quality conditions in Jette municipality of Brussels.
Project Overview
Jette is one of the nineteen municipalities located in the Brussels-Capital Region of Belgium. At the beginning of 2020, the municipality announced the start of “Climate & Air” project.
Evaluation of the air quality conditions in indoor facilities and analysis of the ambient air quality at different parts of the municipality were the primary targets of the project.
Indoor particulate matter (PM2.5 & PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) concentrations were measured in the commune buildings, libraries, schools and kindergartens.
Moreover, outdoor air quality was measured in 9 different locations, and the results were compared with the reference station placed in the biggest park of the municipality.
Result
The results obtained during the project execution were communicated through the series of interactive workshops and presentations.
The project had a high positive impact on overall air quality awareness among the population of the municipality. Moreover, the project helped to understand ambient air quality conditions around the municipality and evaluate the pollution levels in the neighborhood that were not possible to do before due to the absence of a governmental air quality reference station.
